The Secrets to Increasing Instagram Reels Views

(Based on My Personal Experience)

If you are using Instagram, I am sure you have asked yourself this question at least once:

“Why do my Reels get so few views?”

“How do some people get thousands or even millions of views while my Reel stops at 200?”

I asked the same questions too.

When I first started posting Instagram Reels, I had no clear idea what Reels really were, how they worked, or how the Instagram algorithm decided which videos to promote. I simply recorded videos, uploaded them, and hoped for the best.

Most of the time, nothing happened.

But over time, through trial and error, failures, learning, and small successes, I began to understand how Instagram Reels actually work. This article is written based on my own experience, in simple language, so anyone can understand and apply these ideas.

If you are struggling with low views, this article is for you.

What Are Instagram Reels?

Instagram Reels are short-form videos designed to entertain, educate, or inspire people in a very short time.

  • Usually between 15 to 90 seconds
  • Can include music, voiceovers, text, filters, and effects
  • Shown not only to followers, but also to new audiences

This is the most important point.

Unlike normal posts or stories, Reels are pushed by Instagram to people who do not follow you. That is why Reels are the fastest way to grow an account.

Instagram gives special priority to Reels because it wants users to stay longer on the app. If your Reel keeps people watching, Instagram will reward it with more reach.

How Do Instagram Reels Actually Work?

Let me explain this in a very simple way.

When you upload a Reel, Instagram tests it first.

Step 1: The First 3–5 Seconds

Instagram checks:

  • Do people stop scrolling?
  • Or do they swipe away immediately?

If people leave quickly, the Reel dies.

Step 2: Watch Time

Instagram checks:

  • Do people watch the entire Reel?
  • Do they leave halfway?

The longer people watch, the better.

Step 3: Engagement

Instagram looks at:

  • Likes
  • Comments
  • Shares
  • Saves

These actions tell Instagram that your content is valuable.

Step 4: Repeat Views

If people watch your Reel again, that is a very strong signal.

When these signals are good, Instagram decides:

“This Reel is interesting. Let’s show it to more people.”

That is how a Reel reaches the Explore page and the Reels feed.

My Biggest Mistakes at the Beginning

I want to be honest.

My early Reels failed badly.

Here are the mistakes I made:

  • No strong introduction
  • Poor video quality
  • No clear message
  • Copying random content
  • Ignoring trending sounds
  • No consistency

Most of my Reels got only 100–300 views.

But then I realized something very important:

👉 Instagram Reels are not luck. They are a skill.

Once I started treating Reels seriously and learning how they work, everything changed.

The Most Important Secret: The Hook

The first 3 seconds of your Reel decide everything.

This is the biggest lesson I learned.

Now, before posting any Reel, I always ask:

“Why should someone stop scrolling for this?”

Here are some hooks I use:

  • Asking a question “Are your Reels getting low views?”
  • Pointing out a mistake “This is why your Reels are not growing.”
  • Creating curiosity “I discovered this after 30 days of failure.”

If there is no hook, people scroll away.

No hook = No views.

Create Content People Actually Want

At first, I created content based on what I liked.

That was a mistake.

Later, I understood this truth:

👉 It’s not about what you like.
It’s about what your audience likes.

People love:

  • Problems and solutions
  • Short tips
  • Real-life experiences
  • Motivation
  • Honest mistakes and lessons

Now I share:

  • My own failures
  • What I learned the hard way
  • Small tips that actually work

Why does this work?

Because people see themselves in these stories.

Relatable content spreads faster than perfect content.

The Power of Music and Sound

Instagram is not just a social media platform.
It is also a music-driven platform.

Using trending sounds makes a huge difference.

What I do:

  • Go to the Reels tab
  • Look for sounds with the 🔥 symbol
  • Save them
  • Create content using those sounds

When your content matches a trending sound, Instagram naturally pushes it more.

Sound + good content = higher reach.

Captions and On-Screen Text Matter

Earlier, I ignored captions.
Now, I never do.
A good caption:

  • Is short
  • Is clear
  • Creates emotion or curiosity

Examples:

  • “I learned this too late…”
  • “If I knew this earlier, I wouldn’t struggle.”

On-screen text is equally important:

  • Use large, readable fonts
  • Keep it simple
  • Do not overload the screen

Remember: many people watch Reels without sound.

Hashtags: Use Them Correctly

You do not need 30 hashtags.

That is another myth.

What works for me:

  • 5–8 hashtags
  • Related to my niche
  • A mix of broad and specific hashtags

Examples:

  • #instagramreels
  • #reelsgrowth
  • #contentcreator
  • #reelsstrategy
  • #digitalgrowth

Hashtags help Instagram understand who to show your content to.

Consistency Changed Everything

This is my biggest lesson.

One viral Reel is nice, but consistency is powerful.

I committed to: 👉 Posting one Reel every day for 30 days

Results:

  • 20 Reels failed
  • 8 Reels performed okay
  • 2 Reels went viral

Those 2 Reels changed my account completely.

👉 Consistency beats talent.
Instagram rewards people who show up regularly.

Final Thoughts

Instagram Reels are an opportunity.

They allow anyone to share:

  • Their ideas
  • Their experiences
  • Their story

You do not need:

  • Thousands of followers
  • Expensive equipment
  • Perfect editing

You only need:

  • A clear message
  • A strong hook
  • Consistency

Your story matters. Your experience can help someone else. One Reel can change everything.

Start today.
Learn from every post.
And never stop showing up.
